Rev. Fr. John-Mary Benedict Ntol Atep

“When the Holy Spirit (speaks), here is the miracle! He presents people with a different face for God: a God who is an ally, not an adversary; a good Father who did not spare even His own Son for them; in short, a God who shows them favour. They understand that God has given them the commandments for their good. A new feeling springs up in their hearts, that of sons or daughters, and from their lips at last comes the cry, ‘Abba, Father!’”
― Raniero Cantalamessa

Truth they say speaks for itself. Truth speaks for itself because like grace, it flows from the law of superabundance. Recall how the Blessed Virgin was addressed by the Archangel Gabriel as “Full of grace” (Luke 1:28). As disciples of the Holy Spirit that are endowed with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, we have the privilege to also flow from the deposit of truth in us. Truth from the love of God the Father through His Word the Son and in the Power of the Holy Spirit our Sanctifier. Truth speaks for itself, thus, we also need to demonstrate the truth that the Holy Spirit is alive and active in us as we speak the language of our Teacher and Counsellor – the Holy Spirit.

We have said the Holy Spirit speaks the language of the Father and the Son. The language of love. Some have observed that they do not hear or feel the Holy Spirit speak. Two points can assist us to check why we fail to hear the Holy Spirit in us. First, according to The Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 687, the Holy Spirit is the most hidden of the divine persons that, as Jesus Himself said, the world does not receive Him, for it neither knows Him nor sees Him (John 14.17). This calls for a conscious desire for the Holy Spirit by knowledge, prayer and devotion. Second, the spirit of our age is against the Spirit of God. Again, there is a call to work towards conforming all we do with the Spirit of God. There should be no room for separating certain things from God. We need to cultivate a habit of a strong sense of the presence of God.

First, we have to hear from the Holy Spirit before we can speak, just like the Holy Spirit have to hear from God the Father and the Son before He speaks. If we can take seriously the hints above, we can hear the Holy Spirit speak to us through the inner voice of God, which makes itself known to us in countless ways: Faith, special insights, promptings, impulses, reminders, warnings, and pricks of conscience and so on.

On our part we can speak fluently the language of the Holy Spirit as we speak God’s native love languages through: Silence, affirmations, gifts of the Holy Spirit, service/ministries, appropriate use of time, and sensitivity to the needs of others. About sensitivity to the needs of others, please reflect deeply on John 6:1-15

Prayer plan: Select a prayer to the Holy Spirit, memorize it and pray it daily. Please pray for me.

Holy Spirit – Fall afresh on us!

Come o holy spirit and fill the hearts of thy faithful and enkindle in them the fire of thy love. Sent forth thy spirit and they shall be created and thou shall renew the face of the earth.
Oh God who by the holy spirit did instruct the heart of thy faithful, grant that by the same holy spirit we may be truly wise and ever rejoice in in his consolations through the same Christ our lord, Amen.

Thanks a lot Father for this enlightening reflection and let’s continue to give all glory to God for this precious gift of the Holy Spirit, which He as a loving Father gives to us as His best gift (Luke 11:13). May He grant us the grace to truly desire and become more aware of this “most hidden of the divine persons“, as well as be better disposed to it, especially in the area of being silent.
I believe this lockdown period provides us ample opportunities to seek Him in solitude & calmness so we can hear Him and be His instruments in renewing our world. And may Our Lady, His faithful spouse continue to intercede for us.
Many thanks again Father and may He continue to uphold you in His divine strength and wisdom.

Thanks and let us continue to seek the reign of the Holy Spirit in our lives. He appreciates our desire to know Him. Yes He is a mysterious Person and Being but never unintelligible. We can know Him, Love Him and serve Him.

Amen. I just offered Hail Mary for you for more grace. May the same Spirit of Love and compassion of John 6:1-15 propel me to the needs of others, that I may be quick to His promptings and stop grieving Him.
