A lot of people and devout souls who pray the Holy Rosary, sometimes complain that the Rosary is not efficacious. G.K. Chesterton posits “Christianity has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and not tried” (Ahlquist, 2011). The foregoing also applies to the Holy Rosary. The Rosary has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and prayed without intentions. It works because the Blessed Mother cannot be a liar. The Rosary is her gift in union with her Son, Jesus Christ. What is actually lacking in the Rosary devotion and spirituality of many is the absence of intentions before praying the Rosary. Catholic Theology teaches that grace builds on nature. So, let us begin our Rosary like this: Take out your Rosary and hold it firm with your hands and say, I am praying this Rosary for instance for the grace to love God, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the Church; I am praying the Rosary for a new job, for a vocation, for healing and so forth. Then do not forget to conclude stating your intentions by seeking for the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Please pray the Rosary with genuine intentions and apply one of the primary laws of prayer that says, as we seek the face of God in prayer we should not forget His will and nothing more, nothing else and nothing less.

Very true. It also reminds me of what I once read about indulgences; one stands the risk of not obtaining them if not desired in the course of carrying out all the necessary conditions?
