OCTOBER DEVOTION – DAY – 16 – THE HOLY ROSARY – ADDICTIONS
All human beings are wired to long for God. This deep-seated yearning for God is sometimes misdirected or not given maximum attention and it leads to repression and displacement. The commonest hijacker of the human longing for God is addiction. Addictions are the current social malady that are bedeviling our children, youth and adults of all walks of life. Addiction is self-defeating force that abuses our freedom and make us do things we really do not want to do. Once it takes over a person’s freedom, the sufferer of addiction becomes hopeless, helpless and meaningless about life and God. At this level, addicts can only regain their lives if and only if they surrender and seek for grace. According to Gerard May, “Grace is our only hope for dealing with addiction, the only power that can truly vanquish its destructiveness. Grace is the invisible advocate of freedom and the absolute expression of perfect love.” To pray the Rosary is to seek for graces – “Hail Mary, full of grace…” Come together to support those in recovery and to pray for those struggling with addictions.
