OCTOBER DEVOTION – DAY – 15 – THE HOLY ROSARY – GROWTH IN THE SPIRITUAL LIFE
Today the Holy Church of God celebrates an icon and promoter of growth in holiness – ST. TERESA OF JESUS (AVILA). Holiness is our primary and special task in the entire spiritual life. To come to the world and not to end as a holy person will be the greatest tragedy to befall us. God forbid! Therefore to grow in holiness, one need to cultivate and develop a sound spiritual life life St. Teresa of Jesus! We can grow in the spiritual life in order to attain holiness by observing the following:
First, respect the Commandments of God and the precepts of the Church and let us learn to keep ourselves pure by regular confessions and the reception of Holy Communion.
Second, let us work for our freedom by uprooting every worldly attachment from your hearts and be inclined to love of God, neighbour and the self.
Third, let us cultivate and practise humility before God and others.
Fourth, let us cultivate and practice other virtues especially charity.
Fifth, pray, pray, pray! Set a time for prayer and keep it! Pray the Rosary every day. Meditate on the mysteries, don’t just rush through or mumble the words of the prayers. St. John Paul II says, “It would be impossible to name all the many Saints who discovered in the Rosary a genuine path to growth in holiness. We need but mention Saint Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort, the author of an excellent work on the Rosary, and, closer to ourselves, Padre Pio of Pietrelcina,”
Sixth, read good spiritual books like the classic work on Christian prayer, The Interior Castle by St. Teresa of Avila.
Seventh, get a spiritual director and listen to the Holy Spirit directions through him or her.
Notice that the Holy Rosary is a primary spiritual tool for growth in the spiritual life. God help us to pray our Rosary daily through Christ our Lord. Amen.
