OCTOBER DEVOTION – DAY – 13 – THE HOLY ROSARY – FOR MINDFULNESS
Today mindfulness has become a major spiritual maturity and self-care technique. Mindfulness is simply the technique that enables us to train our minds to become attentive and to be able to listen to the body’s sensations and languages. Mindfulness is also paying attention to purpose, our responsibility of the present moment and becoming nonjudgmental. It also builds our intentionality because mindfulness is strictly based on intention. Many of us do not listen to our minds and bodies, so we experience mental health issues such as uncontrollable anger, unforgiveness, anxiety, depression, self-harm and so on. The Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a powerful tool that we can use and cultivate mindfulness culture for our personal growth and development. Take for instance, the moments we pray our Rosary with attention and devotion, we key into the mindfulness disposition. Listen to St. Louis-Marie de Montfort in his introductory prayer to the Holy Rosary, “I unite with all the saints in Heaven, with all the just on earth and with all the faithful here present. I unite with thee, O my Jesus, in order to praise worthily Thy holy Mother and to praise thee in her and through her. I renounce all the distractions I may have during this Rosary, which I wish to say with modesty, attention and devotion, just as if it were to be the last of my life.” The battle with distractions in the Rosary results in calming our persons and focusing us to God, others, the environment and the self.
May the Lady of the Holy Rosary expand our mindfulness drive and the zeal to pay attention to our minds and bodies. Amen. OUR LADY OF FATIMA – PRAY FOR US
