THE SCHOOL OF THE HOLY SPIRIT: NOVENA TO THE HOLY SPIRIT – DAY 9
THANKSGIVING AND CONSECRATION TO THE HOLY SPIRIT THROUGH THE HANDS OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY
Do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit, as you sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, singing and making melody to the Lord in your hearts, giving thanks to God the Father at all times and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. – Eph. 5:18-20
On April 20, 2020, we started a soulful journey with Our Master, Friend, Director and Formator/Teacher and Counsellor/Advocate, the HOLY SPIRIT. We jointly thank the Holy Spirit, “the Gift” for empowering us with the gift of identity and life in Jesus Christ who is the Way, the Truth and the Life (John 14:6). We thank the Holy Spirit for endowing us with the Church and the sacraments of baptism and confirmation. Through such powerful gifts of the sacraments, the Holy Spirit has infused in us gifts, charismatic gifts/charisms and ministries, power and sanctification and above all the spiritual mindedness for heavenly realities (Col. 3:1-3). Our collective names are: GRATITUDE (from our hearts), APPRECIATION (from our lips) and THANKSGIVING (from the whole of our persons/beings).
Congratulations for your dedication to the Person of the Holy Spirit and the Blessed Trinity ultimately. You have demonstrated the fact that you are “born from above” (John 3:1-8). It is our collective prayer that the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life may assist us to remain faithful to the tenets of the salvation we have received from Him; flourish in love, joy and peace and live always a spirit-filled life. Amen.
We have received a lot and to be honest, we should be overwhelmed by the riches that the Holy Spirit has endowed and equipped us. Now it is time to take a second major step in the school of the Holy Spirit; the step of giving back ourselves to the Holy Spirit through consecration: “I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy (consecrated) and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship” (Rom. 12:1). Consecration is a special form of responding to the Holy Spirit and a thanksgiving too. It is yielding to the Holy Spirit our self-will in the fullest possible measure, so that the will of God will be perfected in us and for us. Consecration also is a response to the prayer: “Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matt. 6:10). Moreover, consecration is surrendering our entire self – Body, Mind, Soul and Spirit to the Holy Spirit and to stop living an artificial life (1Thess. 5:23). An artificial life is a live of paying attention to some parts of our human person and not seeing ourselves as holistic beings. The Holy Spirit sees us as human persons that are to be fully integrated.
Today, choose a consecration formula and give yourself to the Holy Spirit totally. We cannot do it alone, therefore we need assistance. The first and best guide to consecration to the Holy Spirit is the Blessed Virgin Mary. Before the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Day, “All these were constantly devoting themselves to prayer, together with certain women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, as well as his brothers” (Acts 1:14). Thus, Mary is the spiritual magnet that can assist us to embrace the Holy Spirit. Therefore, consecrate yourself today to the Holy Spirit through the hands of the Blessed Mother. Pledge to be obedient, humble and radical in discipleship.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to reflect and share with you on various subject matters in the school of the Holy Spirit. I find it very rewarding and fulfilling. I have learned a lot from your comments and prayers. In serving you through this school, I have become more empowered and richer as I have tapped from your insights and contributions. God Bless you a zillion fold. Amen. We have to be expectant for more from the Holy Spirit. He is inexhaustive! May the Holy Spirit see us through and grant us a healthy spiritual life. Amen. Please pray for me! Congratulations! Congratulations! Congratulations!
