OCTOBER DEVOTION – THE HOLY ROSARY – DAY – 6 – ANCESTOR DEFICIT DISORDER
In Africa, Asia and many parts of the world, to honour parents is a virtue and this honorable gesture is supported by the Bible: “Honour your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land THE LORD your God is giving you” (Exo. 20:12). Honouring our fathers and mothers and all the generations that came before us is our way of life and we really prosper by being faithful to this great trademark and identity. No wonder in Nigeria according to our National Anthem English lyrics, we usually say or sing: “The labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain…” To honour our “heroes past” is to respect our roots. A tree without roots can never grow. At the psycho-spiritual levels of our lives we need to fulfill this great need and task for the good of our lives and prosperity. St. Louis Marie de Montfort teaches that: “Just as in natural and bodily generation there is a father and a mother, so in the supernatural and spiritual generation there is a father who is God and a mother who is Mary. All true children of God have God for their father and Mary for their mother; anyone who does not have Mary for his mother, does not have God for his father. So, how do you honour your own mother and father and the generations that came before? Or do you choose not to honour them? How do you honour the supernatural and spiritual generation of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit and the Blessed Virgin Mary? To have devotion to the Holy Rosary is a unique sign of giving honour to the supernatural entities identified above. Don’t forget that the Blessed Virgin Mary, one of our spiritual ancestors gave us the Holy Rosary and to fail to embrace it and pray it is as good as suffering from ANCESTOR DEFICIT DISORDER. GOD FORBID! Pray the Rosary and pray for me!
