OCTOBER DEVOTION – DAY – 28 – THE HOLY ROSARY – AS A MEDITATION ON THE HOLY MASS
Have you ever considered the fact that Mass is the only thing Jesus asked us to do for Him? The Mass is the centrality of Catholicism and people throughout the centuries, places, and times have found it to be the life-transforming centerpiece of their spiritual lives. How about you? The Holy Mass is a memorial! Accordingly, it is offered in memory of the Passion, Resurrection, and Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ, and in honour of Blessed Mary. So, the Holy Rosary properly understood is an extension of the Holy Mass because through it we meditate on the mysteries that the Mass celebrates. The Holy Mass is a sacramental presentation of the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord. The Holy Rosary is a meditation on these very mysteries. St. Thomas Aquinas says, “the whole mystery of our salvation is comprised in this sacrament [the Holy Mass]” (ST III q83 a4). So, praying the Holy Rosary at Mass is indeed one profitable way to assist at Holy Mass (that is recalling the mysteries of the Rosary at Mass). This is true especially for us in order to struggle with distractions and to gain more insights and fruits of the Holy Mass. However, care must be taken so that one does not forget the Mass and begin to formally pray the Rosary in the Mass.
