October Devotion – Day 1: What are we celebrating

October 1, 2018frjohnma

Welcome to this great month of October! For us October 1 is our Independence Day. October 1 in Nigeria is also a special day to commemorate the wisdom of our Nigerian Bishops for dedicating Nigeria after her independence to the Queenship and other offices of the Blessed Virgin Mary. So, Mother Mary is our first patron and mouthpiece before Heaven and earth. October is also the month dedicated for promoting the Rosary – the mystical instrument of our connection with God, the entire supernatural entities and other human beings. About our independence day, there are mixed feelings as many are of the view that there is nothing to celebrate. Do we celebrate tension, the killings of fellow human beings, hunger in the midst of plenty, poverty, hardship, corruption, and lawlessness? The point made is that there is no hope! Hmm! In the history of mankind, he has always placed his trust and hope in fellow men and transient entities of life. But in the Daily Trust of April 1, 2018 Fr. Emmanuel Ojeifo says “Nigeria will rise again!” and Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah was quoted as saying: “I am a Catholic priest. The commodity that I market is hope, and hope is never in recession.” I am also a Catholic priest and my main life-giving principle is hope. Let us invoke Mother of divine hope for Nigeria. Our Lady of hope – pray for us!

Prayer: O Blessed Virgin Mary, Holy Mother of God, Our Lady, Queen of Nigeria, principal patron of Nigeria; you gave birth to the king who rules heaven and earth forever. O Immaculate Mother, Queen of the universe, Queen of Africa, Queen of our Country – Nigeria, Queen of our families and Queen of all Hearts. O heavenly Lady, you reign in union with your Divine Son in heaven and on earth. We entrust our Country, our homes and our individual lives into your hands and cares. We beg you to be ready to help us when we pray and bring back to us answers to our prayers. Our Lady, Queen and Patroness of Nigeria, help us to thank your Son and Our Lord Jesus Christ for blessing our Country with rich human and natural resources. We promise to serve God faithfully and to love our neighbours as ourselves. Provide for the needs of the Church, our country and work for a just and peaceful society. Amen. Our Lady, Queen of Nigeria – Pray for us.

Yes father, our theological virtue are faith, hope, and charity. If u the priests do not have it,the world is gone.Jesus Christ loved, loves, and is loving us unending. So no christian should despair. The CBCN gave us real hope with the prayers for Nigeria in distress and Against bribery and corruption in Nigeria. When i say these prayers,i thank God that i,m a Catholic and we have you all our priests. The holy mass you say is the pillar that holds the world with real HOPE.Yes with that,no despair as the kingdom of God is with us in the Eucharist,Tabernacle,BlessedSacrament , in all christians that love and you our Christ Personified.Shalom.

Good evening Fr John Mary Atep. As Catholics, we have hope and continue to keep faith until the Lord will answer us and Nigeria will rise again, where I won’t need to come from a particular part of the country to benefit from what should and is rightly mine. Where I come from won’t be the source or a part of my problem . Where I live is where I come from and not where I was as born. Until we begin to see each other as truly brothers and sisters irrespective of where we come from , our problems will overwhelm us. May our journey in the October devotion not be in vain for together we will make our country great again.
