OCTOBER DEVOTION – DAY – 02 – THE HOLY ROSARY – SPIRITUAL WARFARE

Spiritual warfare is a common concept today in Christian demonology. It is a struggle or battle with sin and evil, and satan and death. Spiritual warfare confirms the reality of the devil and his agents. Thus, St. Peter tells us, “Your opponent the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion looking for [someone] to devour” (1 Peter 5:8).  Yes, that someone is you! That someone is me! Definitely, there are times when an exorcist is necessary, but what about you? Are you ready for the fight? Do you have a realistic battle plan to combat the devil, his antics and agents in your life?

The major challenge today is how to draw a line between what the devil is influencing and what we ourselves have caused and the consequences of our actions. So, it is very common today for Christians to repeat the blame game issues of Adam, Eve and the Serpent in the Garden of Eden (Gen. 3).

No doubt, there are spiritual conflicts all over us but we are rarely quick to identify the proximate spiritual battles that we need to arrest; such as our weaknesses — selfishness, pride, anger, lust, covetousness, bitterness, hatred, jealousy, greed, gluttony, laziness, vanity, and the list is endless. Through those weaknesses, the devil gain access to us and foments them until they master us and we begin to rationalize instead of mastering ourselves and transforming our weaknesses to virtues of strengths. We are quick to see the end within the seeing the effects of the immediate issues at hand. So, when talking of spiritual warfare, we hardly notice the battle within us and the root cause of our concomitant challenges. Hence, we pray “May your warring angels strike down and destroy every demonic influence that has contributed to my physical and psychological infirmities of nerve disorder, lung disorder, brain disorder or dysfunction, AIDS, cancer, hypochondria, hyperactivity, depression, schizophrenia, fatigue, anorexia, bulimia, addictions, gluttony, perfectionism, alcoholism, self-abuse, sexual addictions, sexual perversions, attempted suicide, incest, pedophilia, lesbianism, homosexuality, adultery, homophobia, confusion, ignorance, procrastination, self-hatred, isolation, loneliness, ostracism, paranoia, nervousness, passivity, indecision, doubt, oppression, rejection, poor self-image, anxiety, shame, timidity and fear.” Have we asked ourselves, what could be the root causes of the issues above?

When it comes to spiritual warfare, the Blessed Virgin Mary is the main fighter. In view of the foregoing St. Louis-Marie de Montfort says “God has never made or formed but one enmity; but it is an irreconcilable one, which shall endure and develop even to the end. It is between Mary, His worthy Mother, and the devil—between the children and the servants of the Blessed Virgin and the children and instruments of Lucifer. All because of her humility. From Mary, therefore, the Holy Rosary stands out as one of the greatest prayer and sacramental that we can use to get to the root causes of spiritual warfare issues and by extension to exterminate the influence of the devil in our lives and societies. The starting point for a victorious battle is a personal relationship with the Blessed Virgin Mary and her Rosary.

“Through those weaknesses, the devil gain access to us and foments them until they master us and we begin to rationalize instead of mastering ourselves and transforming our weaknesses to virtues of strengths.”

May our Lady help us overcome our predominant faults…Its indeed a spiritual warfare…If we can overcome our flesh with our Lady, then the devil will not be able to penetrATE us.

    Thanks Fr for this
