Month of Mary – May Devotions – Day 13 – The Wisdom of Mary!
Wisdom is one of the powerful gifts of the Holy Spirit (Isa. 11:1-3) and it is the ability to make wise and good judgements based on the application of divine truth. Wisdom unifies knowing and believing or it is a union with truth to act wisely. Interestingly, the Virgin Mary possesses wisdom in superabundance. Her wisdom is superabundant because as a single creature of God, her wisdom surpasses all the wisdom of the Fathers of the Church, the Doctors of the Church and all the Angels put together. Thus, she is called the “Seat of wisdom.” You may be wondering where the Virgin Mother got all her wisdom from. It started from the moment of her Immaculate Conception of Jesus. Since she was found without sin, then she was full of grace as the Angel Gabriel had acknowledged by saluting her – Hail Full of Grace (Luke 1:28). To be full of grace is to be full of divine truth. Wisdom is a union with truth and once there is such union, there would be the exemplification of three attributes associated with truth (love, taste, judgement) in the thoughts, feelings and behaviours of a person. Wisdom would lead to love of what is known as the truth, wisdom would lead to a taste and savor of the truth that is believed and wisdom would lead to judgement of all things in the light of divine truth. This was and is how the Blessed Virgin Mary lived and is still reigning in heaven as a woman and mother of wisdom.
More so, the wisdom of Mary was and is par excellence because she gave birth and nurtured Wisdom at the holy home of Nazareth. So, she is Mother and Teacher of Wisdom. She is also the Temple or Throne of Wisdom.
Prayer: Mother and Teacher of Jesus Christ, Wisdom Incarnate, we ask for three qualities that are associated with wisdom as a virtue. The ability to love truth, the ability to taste and savor the truth we believe and the ability to judge everything in the light of divine truth. Mother and Teacher of the Incarnate Wisdom, we humbly come before you with open hearts and minds for you to empower us with the ability to think, feel and act wisely to the glory of God, the good of our world and for our own sanctification and salvation. Amen. Mother and Teacher – the Seat of Wisdom – pray for us!
